Jean Gibbs, author of "Tribes," states that the primary resource predicting the success or failure of each person as a human being is a precious energy known as "self-esteem." Self-esteem is a "quiet inner knowing saying, I'm glad to be me" and is primarily determined by 3 things:

1. affirmation of your child's positive qualities from parents, teachers and other significant caregivers.
2. affirmation from peers and siblings
3. affirmation to themselves based on their own experiences of competency and success ("I did that well. I am good at Soo Bahk Do. Reading is easy for me.")

As a Federation member your child will be recognized and affirmed by their peers and instructors, they will enjoy a strong, noncompetitive sense of belonging and will be provided many opportunities to feel good about their competency and to experience personal success and meaningful achievements.

Since 1945 the Soo Bahk Do® Moo Duk Kwan® martial art system of Grandmaster Hwang Kee has positively influenced thousands of lives worldwide by helping practitioners of all ages develop effective self defense skills while heightening awareness about personal safety, and building increased self confidence and a strong sense of self esteem.

In 1976 the U.S. Federation was chartered as a 501c(4) not-for-profit organization to promote the study and practice of Soo Bahk Do® Moo Duk Kwan®. Federation membership can provide your child with a feeling of belonging and recognition that helps foster enhanced self esteem and encourages positive personal growth while they learn personal safety awareness and valuable self defense skills.
